  1. #1: Most of the website owners today are content with the keywords Meta tag. This is one of the biggest no-nos of Search Engine Content Optimization today. Do not entirely rely on the keywords Meta tag. Keyword Meta Tags were effective 7 – 10 years ago, when search engines used to index web pages solely based on these keywords and Search Engine Content Optimization was fairly simple. The Keyword Meta Tag, was what the search engines could read, these tags were abstracted from the users and visitors of the websites. Today, keyword meta tags, albeit important are not at all solely reliable, most search engines compare the keywords in the meta tags with the content on your website’s webpage’s and consider the keyword relevancy with your content while ranking your web pages and websites.
  2. #2: Content relevancy in respect to the selected keywords, as stated above, is of utmost important. Irrelevant keywords, not relevant to the content of your website will only hurt your page ranks and search positions. Most search engine spiders are extremely “intelligent” and will stop indexing if the content is either stuffed with keywords or is not relevant to the keywords, chances are the webpage will be indexed but not with the targeted keyword and will most probably have no or very low page rank.
  3. #3: Search Engine Content Optimization, involves keywords; keywords that are searched for by users online. Always make sure that the content you are using is relevant and is associated with the keyword that people are searching for, not with a keyword that no one searches for or hardly searches for. Use one of the many keyword optimization and suggestion tools available today.
  4. #4: While writing Content Optimized for Search Engines, always use targeted keywords which have a few competitor or the competition level for these keywords is low. This does not mean using dead keywords which no one searches for, but keywords that lukewarm, not yet hot.
  5. #5: Search Engine Content Optimization, does require the content to be unique and original, the content should not be copy and pasted from other sources like article directories. Content Plagiarism would certainly lead to your website being blacklisted by the search engines. Keep in mind some search engines have no toleration policies in place and may penalize your website in terms of page rank too.
  6. Having good content is good, but having Search Engine Content Optimization in place, and having the content optimized regularly is even better.
